Christmas is right around the corner and there are plenty of events happening in and around the area for kids and adults alike. We have compiled a list with some of Brisbane’s most iconic annual events and other unique activities for you, your family, and your friends to enjoy this festive season.
Enchanted Garden (4th Dec -17th Jan 6.30 pm-9.30 pm – Roma St. Parklands)
As of the 4th of December, Roma Street Parklands will be transformed into a mystical forest using 40,000 multi-coloured lights, lasers, and crystals. Prepare to be dazzled as you walk through the mesmerising gardens that are sure to entice the imaginations of your little ones. Food trucks will be on-site at Celebration Square from 5 pm daily and the area is licensed until 8 pm. Eco-Living Christmas Markets (5th Dec 12 pm–8 pm & 6th Dec 10 am-4 pm – Brisbane Showgrounds 600 Gregory Tce. Bowen Hills)
Shop local businesses, support sustainability, and stock up on Christmas gifts at these Christmas Markets, part of the Brisbane Eco-Living Festival. The outdoor markets will be held at the Brisbane Showgrounds where there will be food trucks, live music, kids activities, free workshops, and market stalls selling a variety of eco-friendly products. Carols in the Carpark (13th Dec 4pm, Ashgrove Baptist Church, 7 Firhill St. Ashgrove)
Held annually by the Ashgrove Baptist Church, this event kicks off at 4 pm with jumping castles and other inflatables for the kids to play on. At 6 pm the live carols begin, with BBQ, drinks, and coffee available throughout the afternoon and evening. Christmas Cinema (18th-23rd Dec 6-10pm – River Quay Green Southbank)
Pack a picnic and head down to Southbank to catch a classic Christmas movie with friends, family, or your fur-babies (dogs are permitted on a leash!). There are two movies lined up for each night in the week leading up to Christmas, one that starts at 6 pm and one at 8 pm, finishing up at 10 pm. The area is licensed until 10pm and there are picnic hampers available for purchase as well as the many surrounding restaurants and food outlets. The event is free however, you will need to register upon entry in line with COVID-19 regulations.
Christmas Flower Workshops (23rd Dec 5.30 pm – Walkabout Creek, 60 Mount Nebo Rd, Enoggera Reservoir)
Release your inner-creative by designing and decorating your own Christmas wreath or table arrangement with Francesca’s Flowers. All materials are provided including a selection of seasonal flowers, foliage, and Christmas ornaments to help you create your masterpiece under the guidance of the florist teachers. A glass of bubbles on arrival and antipasto grazing platter are included in the price of $165 per person, with a cash bar also available. This is a 3-hour group workshop for all ages with the option to join one of the public workshops or organise a bespoke class with a minimum of 8 people.
