Mount Coot-tha Reserve is Brisbane’s largest natural bushland area, with over 70km of walking tracks winding through native forest. For an easy start, the Summit Track is a popular 1.9km return walk leading to panoramic views at the lookout – coee or ice cream at the top at the Summit Café is a bonus. Shorter trails like Simpson Falls offer peaceful waterfall views, while longer circuits such as the Eugenia Circuit (2.8km) and a connected loop via the Citriodora Trail and Summit Track (approx. 4.5km) are ideal for getting the heart pumping in a calming, leafy setting. Down at the base, the Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mount Coot-tha is another highlight—a lush, beautifully maintained space perfect for a gentle walk, picnic, or mindful moment among native and exotic plants.

Enoggera Reservoir, tucked behind The Gap, combines lakeside tranquillity with shady bush trails. The full 11km reservoir circuit offers a moderate challenge with peaceful water glimpses, native birds, and spots to pause along the way. Starting at the Walkabout Creek Discovery Centre, it’s a great half-day outing – especially if you pack a picnic or swimmers for a refreshing post-walk dip, where you can also hire kayaks. It’s one of the few places in Brisbane where you can walk, unwind and float all in one visit.

When it comes to local wellness, nature is one of the best remedies – and it’s right on our doorstep. Whether you’re walking for fitness, mental clarity, or simply some quiet time away from screens, these nearby trails invite you to slow down and reconnect. So next time the weekend rolls around, grab your sneakers, take a deep breath, and explore what’s just around the corner.
