As the new year sinks in and the property sales for 2014 start to kick off, spare a thought for those celebrities whose mega-mansions still linger on the market from last year. Of all the celebrity homes yet to find a buyer, the most extravagant example with the heftiest asking price may well be the Floridian waterfront estate owned by Canadian warbler Celine Dion. Her five-bedroom mansion, sitting on nearly six acres of land in Jupiter Island, is currently on the market for $72.5million.Much like Celine’s heart, the listing for this property will go on and on with examples of the home’s luxury. As well as having 400 foot of linear waterfront, the estate has some pretty impressive outdoor swimming opportunities, including two massive pools linked by a ‘lazy river’ and waterpark-style ‘twisting slides’, plus another huge pool at the back of the main house. There’s also five pavilions to accompany the main residence which include a beach house and tennis centre.
But which other superstars are still awaiting a sale? This Hamptons Estate owned by Richard Gere, sat over six Long Island acres and with 300 feet of waterfront, might be the second most expensive contender at $65million. With twelve bedrooms, twelve bathrooms, guesthouse, expansive lawns and outdoor pool, it looks like an excellent estate for guests and outdoor entertainment.
Deceased funnyman Bob Hope also has a huge estate still on the market, a Palm Springs property listed for an asking price of $50million. It also transpired recently that the Chicago mansion of basketball legend and Space Jam star Michael Jordan, which was originally listed for $29million way back in February 2012, has had another price cut since failing to sell at auction, and is now on the market for $16million.
