Upcoming Construction Projects in QLD

Despite the unpredictable events of 2020, this year has seen construction projects forge forward throughout Queensland. Our city skyline and airport are both receiving major works whilst Brisbane’s inner-city suburbs are also seeing major infrastructure projects receiving the go-ahead and edging closer to completion.  We have compiled a list of projects in and around our local area to update you on their status and what to expect in 2021.

West Ashgrove Village Precinct Project

Part of the Council’s ‘Village Precinct Projects’, the shopping centre along Waterworks Road in West Ashgrove is set to undergo a major renovation. An estimated $3 Million commitment to the project will see an upgrade to the surrounding footpaths, road crossings, greenery for visual appeal and improved seating areas with unique street furniture. The plan is in place to create a more vibrant neighbourhood and council received more than 80 suggestions from locals as to what they would like to see from the renovation. The final improvement proposal will be released in early 2021 with the project due to be finalised by the end of next year.

Tri-Care Retirement Village (Ashgrove)

Construction is currently underway at Tricare’s new aged-care facility on Nathan Avenue in Ashgrove. The building will be a six-storey residence comprising a mix of independent living and residential aged care.  The building is a part of the Lord Mayor’s ‘Aged Care Incentive’ that was introduced in 2016 to accommodate the projected 50 percent increase in the elderly population over the next 12 years. The project has an estimated $45 Million value with construction commencing in the second half of 2020 and awaiting a firm completion date.

The Aviary (Toowong)

Approved as of October 2020, the mixed-use lifestyle precinct in Toowong known as ‘The Aviary’ will commence its’ upgrade in 2021. At an estimated $450 Million, the 9000 square metre town centre will offer 150 residential apartments, 30 retail shops, office tower, dining precinct, cinemas and health services including a gym and medical centre. The Aviary will revive community amenity in Toowong and bring enhanced liveability to Brisbane’s western suburbs. The centre will be based around an ‘open street theme’ and is due for completion in 2023.

Victoria Park

Referred to as ‘Brisbane’s answer to Central Park’, the Victoria Park draft vision plan was released early 2020 with the final vision plan to be confirmed late this year. Brisbane’s largest park in 50 years, the 18-hole golf course will be transformed into 450 hectares of community green space that celebrates Brisbane’s heritage and natural environment. Features of the park will include waterholes for kayaking and swimming, skate park, tennis courts and tree house. Residents advised that they wanted more greenspaces and the highly-anticipated project is set to begin works in June 2021.
