The chances of finding love may well be dependent on the suburb you live in

FORGET bars and nightclubs, finding a partner could be as easy as moving to the right suburb. Nearmap has crunched the numbers to find out which suburbs in Australia have the highest demographics of young adults under the average age of marriage living in them. As would be expected many of the suburbs are close to the capital cities, where there is a high proportion of renters.

Sydney has the highest number of bachelor and bachelorette suburbs, and none of them overlap. Bachelors are more likely to be found in St Leonards, North Sydney, Neutral Bay, Kurraba Point, Kirribilli, Milson’s Point, Lavender Bay, McMahon’s Point, Darlinghurst, Surry Hills, Alexandria and Erskineville.

Erskineville is just 4km from the Sydney CBD and has an average asking rent of $580 a week for a unit or $680 a week for a house, so if you manage to nab yourself a bachelor who lives in that suburb you can be pretty sure he’ll come house mates.

About half the properties in Erskineville are in the rental market. If you want to buy the median house price is $951,000 while median unit price is $655,000. Bondi Beach is a popular suburb for Sydney’s bachelorettes to live.

If it’s a Sydney bachelorette your looking for try some of Sydney’s beach side suburbs. There are higher numbers of bachelorettes in North Bondi, Bondi Beach, Bondi, Birchgrove, Balmain East, Balmain, Rozelle, Lilyfield, Annandale, Leichhardt, Tamarama and Bronte. To rent close to the bachelorette action in Leichhardt will set you back about $690 a week for a house or $530 a week for a unit.

Few young singles could probably afford to buy in Bondi where the median house price is $1.565 million and the median unit price is $740,000.

In Perth the bachelor and bachelorette suburbs are identical, Perth, West Perth, East Perth and Highgate. The most affordable of those areas to buy a house in is West Perth where the median house price is $720,000 while Highgate has the cheapest median unit price of $455,000. About 63 per cent of properties in Highgate are rented with an average weekly asking rent of $565 for a house and $455 for a unit.

There’s only one place to go to find a high proportion of bachelors and bachelorettes in Adelaide and that’s North Adelaide, just 2km from the CBD. Buying a house in the suburb may be out of reach of many singles with a median house price of $962,500. Units are slightly better at $590,000 a week. Brisbane has four suburbs full of bachelors. They are Bowen Hills, Newstead, Teneriffe, Bulimba. The suburbs are the same for bachelorettes with the exception of Bulimba. Bowen Hills, Newstead and Teneriffe are all close to the Brisbane CBD and have undergone massive urban renewal with hundreds of units either built or under construction. The median house price at riverside suburb Bulimba is $980,000 while the median unit price is $572,500. A house rents for about $560 a week while a unit rents for about $400 a week.
