5 rules when decorating your bedroom

Your bedroom is your sanctuary and is often forgotten in the decorating stakes. Here are 5 rules to employ when decorating your bedroom.

  1. Invest in your linen
We’ve all heard the stats, we spend a lot of our lifetime in bed so it’s important that we prioritise the linen investment. In the cooler months invest in a down duvet to snuggle under and a lighter cotton bedspread for the warmer months. Don’t get caught up in thread count, look for the quality fibre, for example 100% cotton, Egyptian cotton, pima, supima. Consider upsizing your bed cover & adding a throw.
  2. TV free zone
There are two kinds of people in this world, those who are non-negotiable TV-in-the-bedroomer’s and TV-belongs-in-the-living-roomer’s. A TV free bedroom tends to lend itself to more reading, late night conversation, and a sounder sleep. And who’s to say a movie in bed with the laptop on raining nights isn’t allowed?
  3. Keep your night stand clutter free
It’s an easy trap to fall into, but try to keep your nightstand clutter free. A bedside table with a draw is an easy way to install the unsightly items. Consider fresh flowers and a scented candle, and instant relaxation combo.
  4. Artwork
Hang artwork that is going to give you the finishing touch in your room, it’s often ignored but is almost always the pièce de résistance. It’s always a great alternative to having a bed frame or headboard.
  5. Warm hardwood floors with a rug
Hardwood floors are one of the most desired floor finishes, but it’s important to use rugs, particularly proportionately. Hardwood floors in the bedroom should be warmed with a large rug underneath the bottom ¾ of the bed, spilling out about 600mm on the sides and front of the bed. Look for rugs made of natural fibres such as wool or jute.
